- How much do I pay per Session?
The amount to be paid by each student varies from Faculty to Faculty. The amount is advertised in the University website and at the beginning of the session. Students are therefore advised to check on the University website for the prescribed fee of their Faculty/College for payment. - Where do I pay my School fees?
The University fees are now paid through the POS Terminal in the respective Colleges/Faculties and at the Bursary as well as the ICT Centre. Students are advised to contact their Faculty Accountant and pay through the POS Terminal. No cash payment please!!! - How do I pay?
Payment can only be made through the POS machine using the ATM card. No cash or Bank draft is allowed. Do not send anybody to pay for you. The University will not help you if you loose your fees to friends, fraudsters and unauthorized staff. - I have paid but I can not print my School fees Receipt
Student are advised to see the Bursar with their POS receipt and printed profile. - Can somebody pay for me?
Students should avoid intermediaries/unknown person from paying on their behalf. Many unsuspecting students have been duped by these set of people, who pretended as if they wanted to help them. Payment of school fees should be done personally by the students or their parents. - How do I register for my Course and where?
After the payment of prescribed school fees, students are advised to print their Course Registration Forms and other necessary forms on-line on the University web site, and proceed immediately to their respective Departments to register for their courses. The lists of courses for the session are usually pasted on the Notice Boards in the Departments, and on Departmental/Faculty handbooks to be given to them in their department. - What am I expected to do during Registration?
Students are advised to print their Course Registration Forms on-line and proceed to their Department to register for the courses as prescribed by the Department per Semester. The University time table will give a deadline, after which registration shall close. - How do I complete my Registration? Students are advised to fill the list of courses prescribed by the Department on Semester/Session basis, on the printed course Registration forms and take the forms to the Lecturers for signature. After signing the form, the Course Advisers and the HOD also counter-sign the form to ensure that appropriate courses as prescribed by the Department are registered for by the students.
- At what point do I submit my Registration files/Documents?
Consequent upon the successful completion of the registration, students are expected to put all the document back in the file given to them and submit alongside all other documents with the files to the Faculty Office for processing. - Do I pay extra charges in the Department/College/Faculty to Register?
All charges had been built into the school fees paid by the students. Students should not pay any extra fee at any other offices for Registration. - What is Late Registration?
Late Registration is a situation whereby a student is unable to complete his/her registration formalities before the expiration of the deadline given by the University authority. In this case, the student would not be able to register for the courses, and submit his/her files and documents to the Faculty Officer for processing When the University, out of clemency, granted the affected students opportunity to register, this is usually termed Late Registration. - When can I defer my admission?
Students in Part 1 (Fresh Students) can only be allowed to defer their admission due to problem of ill health or other conditions prescribed in the University regulation. However, before the approval is granted any student, he/she must have registered properly and possess valid Matriculation Number. Such students are, however, expected to apply for deferment of their admission through their HOD to the Registrar. - What will happen if I am unable to pay school fees before the expiration of the deadline? Fresh students who are unable to pay school fees before the expiration of the deadline given by the Management shall forfeit the admission. Stale students shall take leave of absence. This can only be taken twice in a course except in cases of ill health.
- How do I identify my course Lecturer/Lecture Room/Time Table?
At the beginning of the session, the lists of Lecturers and the Course Allocation as well as Lecture Time Table are displayed in the Departmental Offices and Notice Boards for students to copy and on the website. - Is Tutorial Class Compulsory?
Tutorial classes are classes as organized by each Lecturer to review courses taught and also to assess students’ performance in the course. They may or may not be on the time table. If in doubt, consult your HOD. - Is Continuous Assessment Necessary?
Continuous Assessment is compulsory for all courses taught in the University. All courses shall be examined by Continuous Assessments and Tests. The Mark scored through such continuous assessments shall not constitute more than 30% of the total mark for the course. -
Is 70% attendance at lectures necessary Requirements to write
University Examination?
Yes, students are expected to attend lectures promptly and satisfy the examiners with over 70% attendance at classes to qualify to write such examination. - What qualifies me to write the University examination?
To be qualified to write the University Examinations, students are expected to have duly registered and issued a valid identity card for the session. Also, the students are expected to have 70% attendance in class and do continuous assessments for the courses registered for the session. - What are the rules governing conduct of the University Examination?
The following rules guide the conducts of examination in the University:
- Student shall not be allowed during an examination to communicate by word or otherwise with any other student or leave his/her place except with the consent of the invigilator
- Student shall not impersonate any body in any University Examination
- Student shall not take into an examination room or Hall or be in possession of any book or paper or printed document(s) or telephone (GSM).
- Smoking shall not be permitted in examination room
- What are compulsory, required and pre-requisite courses?
- Compulsory courses: Courses specified by a Department, Faculty or the University which a student must take and pass.
- Required Courses: Courses specified by a Department which student must take.
- Elective Courses: Courses specified by a Department from which a student can take in order to make up the required additional units for the award of the degree.
- Pre-requitsite Courses: A course whose knowledge is essential prior to taking another specified course.
- Concurrent Courses: Specified courses at the same level which must be taken within the same semester.
- What is Carryover?
Carryover is a situation whereby student refuses to earn up to 40% credit in a particular course in any semester. Such students are deemed to have failed the course, which they can only register for and take at the next available opportunity (Carry over). - What can I do with my carryover courses?
Students are expected to pass all the prescribed courses by the Department in each semester, to be able to progress to the next level. Any courses that are not passed in the lower classes are “Carried” to the next semester. This implies more workload for the students and their limitations to the total number of units that can be carried over. - At what point can I do the carryover courses?
Carryover courses can be registered for at the next available opportunity, provided they are within the approved limit of Unit of courses student can register for in a particular Semester in each Department. - What is Extra Unit/Year?
Extra Unit/ implies the weight of excess Unit of courses students are to register for at a particular semester, while extra year implies additional year that student will spend to pass all outstanding courses. - How do I register for Extra Unit?
Student with carryover courses are expected to apply at the beginning of the session through the Faculty to the Senate for permission to register for extra Units. - What is Spill-over year?
Spill-over is a terminology used to refer to final year students who are unable to complete their courses within the prescribed academic calendar. Such category of students will have to spend extra year to meet the requirements for graduation. - What is Matriculation Ceremony?
This is a formal ceremony organized by the University annually, to induct fresh students as members of the University community. Admission process terminates with the ceremony. Nobody can pay any fees, register or be admitted after the ceremony. - Can I pay or register for courses after Matriculation?
NO, Students can not pay or register for Courses after Matriculation. Matric numbers are only issued to those that sign the matriculation oath. - At what point do I have Matriculation Number?
Matriculation numbers are usually given to fresh students after signing the matriculation oath and completing all registration formalities. - What type of cloth can I wear to Campus?
Students are counselled to put on decent dress that does not reveal any part of their bodies. All the jump skirts, Mini skirts, armless, body hug etc are prohibited on Campus. Also, the male students should maintain a normal cut of their hair. - How do I comport myself on Campus?
Students are expected to behave decently on Campus. They are expected to exhibit high level of decency and be friendly to one another. Students are to avoid use of uncouth language, truancy and fighting on Campus. - Which type of friends do I keep?
While students are encouraged to be friendly to their Colleagues, they are advised to be careful of the friends they keep on campus especially those that invite them out at night. - Which type of organization can I join?
There are several students organization on Campus. However, students are advised to join duly registered club on Campus. Students could confirm the list of registered club on Campus in the Directorate of Students Affairs. - How do I spend my free time on Campus/Hall?
Students are advised to make judiuous use of their time. Students can use their free time on Campus to recreate at the Sport center, or go to Library or attend other academic programmes that will contribute to their academic well being. - How do I respond to advances from opposite Sex/Lecturers?
Students are expected to treat any advances from opposite sex and Lecturers with maturity. Many students have fallen victim of this problem, hence students are advised to be careful and resist any relationship that could jeopardize their academic progress. They should not go to places where they can be compromised or see boys/lecturers alone or behind closed doors. If you need advice see the DSA or Director Olubi Counselling Center. - If caught cheating in an examination hall/other various activities on
Campus, what would happen?
The University has a well laid down procedures for dealing with recalcitrant members of the community. Any students caught cheating or engage in any nefarious activity shall be dealt with in accordance to the rule and regulation of the University. Such students will face the disciplinary Committee or summarily dismissed in extreme cases. - Who do I report to in case of any injustice/unfair treatment from any of
the following:
- My Colleagues: Students who suffer from injustice/unfair treatment are advised to report first to Dean, Student Affairs in writing, from where further necessary action would be taken on the matter.
- My Lecturers: Students who suffer injustice/unfair treatment from lecturers’ hand should first report to his/her HOD in writing detailing the nature of the case, from where the issue would be referred to higher authorities for investigation and further necessary action. (A copy should be sent to the DSA).
- Outsiders: Injustices/unfair treatment suffered by the students from the outsiders for example armed robbery/burglary or Minor accident should be reported first to the police and the University security office/DSA for urgent necessary action.
- Members of the University community: Injustice suffered from members of the University community could be reported immediately to the Registrar or the Vice-Chancellor as the case may be.
- My Parents: Any injustice/unfair treatment suffered by students from their parents can be reported at the University Guidance and Counselling Unit for settlement.
- My Health: Students with any health challenge are advised to go to the University Health Centre for treatment. In some cases, such category of ailment may be referred to General Hospital/Specialist Hospital. Students, who fall sick at home however, are to submit medical report for authentication by the Medical Director to be able to collect sick certificate.
- My Results: Any injustice suffered by students regarding their Examination results should be reported to the HOD for necessary counseling and further necessary action.
- Loss of Properties: Any loss of properties such as Identity Card, School receipts etc., should be reported at the Registrar’s Office and Student Affairs Office & Security Unit for further necessary action.
- How do I get Sick Certificate? Any Student who fall sick while in school are advised to go to the Health Centre. The Doctor will examine the student and depending on the nature of the sickness, the Doctor will issue him/her sick certificates for a specific period to enable him/her recuperate.
- What is the role of the Sick Certificate?
The Sick Certificate is a certificate given at the Health Centre for a specific period that enables student to be away from school to recuperate or take care of themselves or to be absent from Examination hall during or before Examinations. - What is Leave of Absence?
Leave of Absence is a permission granted by the University authority to a particular student to be officially away from school for a specific period. - When can I go on Leave of Absence?
Student could be granted Leave of Absence at the beginning of any particular Session. The Student can take a semester Leave of Absence without giving a particular reason but an application and reply is necessary for record purpose. However, for a session, a reason must be given. However student can not take more than two sessions off during the entire course. - What can I do to obtain Leave of Absence?
At the beginning of the session, students who are unable to pay school fees or meet registration deadline or other conditions as specified by the University Regulations are expected to apply for the leave of absence for the session. - If I write examination and my results are not released, what should I do?
Examination results in the University are pasted on the respective Faculty/Department Notice Boards. Any duly registered student whose results were not released are advised to make formal complaints in writing to the HOD for Investigation and further necessary action. - In case of missing Scripts/Results, what should I do?
Students in this category are advised to make formal complaints in writing to the HOD for investigation and further necessary action. - If I do Continuous Assessment/Mid Semester Test and the result is not
found, what should I do?
Students are advised to make formal complaints immediately to the HOD for verification and further action. - When do I see my Head of Department (HOD)? Heads of Department are to provide academic leadership to the Department. Students are therefore free to see their HOD as situations demand. If you cannot see your HOD after 3 visits, see the Dean.
- When do I need to see my HOD?
Students are advised to see their HOD whenever they have any academic or personal problem affecting their stay in the campus. - When do I need to see my Level/Course Adviser? Students are to see their Course and Level Adviser regularly for Counselling on their academic progress and for discussion on course to register.
- Can I work while studying in the School? Yes, the University has student work scheme, that enables brilliant but indigent student to work while studying. Students are to contact the Directorate of Students’ Affairs for details. Such works are normally within the Campus vicinity to allow such students to attend lectures.
- What is the role of Olabisi Onabanjo University Counselling Centre to
the students?
OOU Counselling Centre was established to provide support Counselling and Welfare services to students. The Centre provides services that support students’ needs and other Academic personal related problems on Campus. - Does the University have Scholarship Provision for Indigent Student? Yes, the University has provision for Scholarship for brilliant indigent Students. Students should contact the Directorate of Students’ Affairs for details.
